Selling products is such an arduous task, too many people involved, so much paperwork and the many employees who come and go, get late and expect you to know them by name. The franchise business came to change all that. Being a great alternative and an extremely profitable one at that, you brand your products and you enlist wholesalers and retailers to push the products into the market for you. All they need to do is pay a royalty fee and they are in.
So in essence, what is franchise business?
This is the kind of business where the manufacturer who is the franchisor produces his goods and the channel of distribution to the preferred market is independent third party businesses. This third party independent distributor of the franchisor’s product is the one referred to as the franchisee. These two businesses are completely independent of each other and their relation is the product that is sold to the consumer. But this is not as easy as it might sound. It is a complex business model that requires elaborate business guides just like any other legal business.
Before you plunge head-on into this kind of business, have an elaborate business plan, as you need to be sure that the foundation that you are laying for that business is solid and can withstand financial pressures like the current economic crisis. Remember as a franchisee, there is no guarantee that you will be able to sell the manufacture’s products. All you rely on is the strength of the brand in the market. So it is very important that before you get into it, analyze the marketability of the product, competitors in the same line of the business among other factors.
Since there is a payment that is given to the franchiser as a franchisee to handle the agreement and payment after sales, you as a franchisee need to have all these covered so as not to fail in targets and delay in disbursement of the payments. The product should be able to meet the demand that is out there and it should be able to compete with the alternatives in the market in order to survive out there. Quality of service and friendly sales people is a great selling point and gets you admiration, publicity and return customers.
Before putting pen to paper whether you are a franchisor or franchisee, know your stake in the venture. The franchise fee and the royalties should be negotiable by either party and it is imperative you understand the nitty-gritty of the agreement and you are good to go.
